West Yorkshire One Day Conference
Tony Rymer has sent me information about the West Yorkshire Groups annual One Day Conference.
For me this has to be one of the best value for money events in the alpine calender.
I note a change in venue this year ( it seems to be happening to all of us these days)
West Yorkshire Group of the AGS
One Day Coference, Saturday 29 September 2001
St. Chad's Parish Centre, Far Headingley, Leeds 16
(9:30 - 4:45 approx.)
The theme will be 'The eastern Mediterranean and beyond'. We have an
impressive cast of speakers lined up for your edification and entertainment,
as follows.
Dr. John Richards, much travelled author and botanist, will talk on the 1999
AGS MESE Expedition to Greece and hopefully give us an update on how seed
collected is performing in cultivation.
Phil Phillips, photographer extraordinaire, will give a presentation on an
aspect of the region's flora.
John Akeroyd, a freelance botanist with an extensive knowledge of the Balkan
flora, will be addressing conservation issues arising from the threats to
wild plants in the area.
Dr. Vojtech Holubec, a Czech botanist with a detailed knowledge of the
region's flora, will take us to the Western Caucasus, and will show us
fabulous Campanulas, Gentiana oschtenica and other plants little known to us.
As usual, fine plants will be available from nationally known and local
nurseries. There will be a local group plant stall, book sales etc.
Light refreshments will be provided on arrival and during mid morning and
afternoon breaks. Several pubs and an excellent fish restaaurant are within
easy walking distance.
The cost remains at just £10 for the day.
